Do you feel called to stand with others as a witness to the world that God is present and active in our times? If so, we invite you to consider sharing our life and community, our Providence spirituality and our healing ministries as a Sister of Providence.

The Sisters of Providence are enriched today because of the involvement of dedicated women who choose to commit themselves as vowed members of the community. Living in a faith community provides us with opportunities for sharing, affirming and encouraging one another. Prayer grounds us and puts us in touch with the tremendous gifts of life and faith and helps us to believe that sometimes the impossible is possible.

As women of Providence, we witness to Gospel values. We strive to live simply and to arrive at an individual and communal balance of ministry, prayer and leisure. In our community life, we care for each other, and in our professional lives, we care for others. This sharing and celebration of our personal and communal gifts strengthens us for our mission to bring hope and healing to a hurting world.

Pre-Novitiate Program
When a woman indicates to us that she feels a call from God to enter our community, she begins to discern that call for a period of time with our Vocation Director, Sister Ann Horgan. Once she and Sister Ann are ready to proceed, she starts preparing for the novitiate stage of our formation program. During this time, she begins to establish her relationship with us through prayer, community life and service.

Novitiate
The novitiate stage provides her with experiences, direction and time to integrate her spirituality, service and community living. It is a time for her to grow in response to her call.

Vowed Life
Following her time as a novice, the woman makes her First Profession during a simple, yet beautiful ceremony, in which she takes temporary vows promising to live our way of life. Following her profession, she becomes fully integrated into our community life while continuing to participate in our Formation Program. Three to nine years after her First Profession of Vows, she makes her final vows promising to live as a Sister of Providence for the remainder of her life.
